It has been a usual fall…Busy, busy, busy, but awesome! God has allowed me to minister in a variety of places all over the world.
Mission Trips
September saw my 3rd trip to South Africa where we worked with an organization called Go Live Dare, run by my friend Donavan Olding. This is very similar to Dare 2 Share in the United States. Go Live Dare exists to equip youth leaders and students with the tools they need to be Gospel-Advancing people. We trained and equipped about 50 young people and youth leaders in Cape Town, South Africa, with how to share their faith. This was Go Live Dare’s first outreach into Cape Town. I was able to pray for several leaders and hear from the Lord for them before and after some of the training and teaching times. We also did some scouting to help set up for a bigger training program which will involve hundreds of young people being trained and equipped next year. One of the places we scouted was a penguin park on the ocean to take people on their free day of the week-long training. I was not expecting to ever be this close and personal with a penguin in my life, it was an awesome experience.
In October, I filled in last minute for a Christian Life School missions trip to Watts, California. One of the leaders became sick and they literally asked me to help lead the trip with less than a week’s notice. The trip was led by Josh Caputo, a CLS Bible teacher and a former student of mine who attended my school, The Next Generation School of Ministry in 2011. It was great to work alongside Josh as a peer 8 years after he attended my school. Watts is most notably known for its riots where 34 people died and thousands where injured in the 1960’s. It is a very poor African American neighborhood in South Central Los Angeles. We worked at the Watts Empowerment Center with young children. We also went down to skid row in LA to share Jesus with people by giving them water, listening to them, praying for them and sharing Jesus with them. The one highlight outside of ministry on this trip for me was being able to eat at my favorite restaurant in all the world: IN-N-OUT Burger. (Nothing like a 4x4!)
In November, I took my first trip to Italy where we worked with Grande Mandato, (basically the Italian version of Dare to Share) with my friend Stefano. There were about 50 youth and leaders in attendance. The greatest part of this trip is that Tammy was able to accompany me and we were able to minister together…something that has not been able to happen in years. Mostly due to the fact that we can’t leave the children at home alone. Our daughter Kellie and daughter-in-law Amy along with others all pitched in to watch the younger kids while we were there. Kellie even said she would not do it if we didn’t take a few days for fun to see some sites. We are so grateful to those who allowed us to take this trip together!
It was one of the worst trips I’ve ever been on if you look at circumstances alone. My luggage did not arrive with me and I was without a change of clothes for a week. I bought a few things that we washed out at night but I had to wait until we were in a place for more that one night so that it had a chance to dry, which didn’t happened until day 4. When I finally received my luggage I discovered that $50 of electronics was missing and had been stolen. (I am still fighting with the Airlines for them to take responsibility).
Not only did I have the luggage fiasco, I also enjoyed some of Italy’s finest hospitality as I spent the night in an Italian hospital. On Saturday afternoon as part of the training we traveled to a major city approximately an hour away from the conference to share the gospel on the streets of Torino. Right after I arrived as I was walking down the street, I felt immediately dizzy, sat down and threw up for 5 hours continuously. So they called an ambulance, took me to the hospital, and gave me a CT scan plus 5 bags of fluids and kept me overnight and most of the next day. They diagnosed me with vertigo. And I am still being effected by the dizziness going on my third week from the incident. We also stayed in Venice as that is where we flew home from, which happen to have the worst flooding they has ever experienced. Thankfully, we don’t just look at our current circumstances but we look to see what God is doing in them.
Even though I didn’t get to share on the street, an American missionary who spoke fluent Italian stayed the night with me and Tammy to translate for us. He was able to read the scriptures to my three roommates and a guy from across the hall and discuss Jesus for about 3 hours with them. We were also able to encourage several missionaries who were lonely and missing home. We were able to pray for several people and see God miraculously heal them. And we were able to speak the truth of the scriptures and bring prophetic words to several people. In God’s eyes this trip was a great success.
We did get a chance to see a few sites in the midst of our travels which helped to soften the blow of the terrible trip. We spent 3 hours seeing Rome before we had to catch a train. We caught a glimpse of the leaning tower of Pisa before we went to bed one night. And instead of staying in Venice the whole two days, we drove to a Micro country called Republic of San Marino and spent the afternoon there before we had to fly home, it was absolutely stunning. So I guess that we made lemonade out of our lemons, lots of lemonade.
Allies of Kenosha
The Allies groups are going well. We continue to make strides toward more and more unity. Our prayer times together are perhaps the highlight of the work week for me. I spend time worshiping and attending many of these churches, whenever possible. Please continue to pray for unity in the churches of Kenosha.
In November the Youth Allies Network held two events: a training for youth leaders and a worship night for the youth groups. The training was super helpful as a few senior pastors spoke and encouraged the youth leaders in their ministry to students and being united in our city.
Then the next week the youth groups in the Allies Youth network had a worship night called The Gathering. There were 175 people in attendance with students from 8 different churches plus Campus Life. God is really working in the lives of the student ministries and the Campus Life ministries are growing and reaching new students every week.
Future Plans
Tammy and I would like to partner with our dear friend in Kenya, Margaret Waruguru, to start a home for girls called Amani (Peace in Kiswahili) Haven. We have been in the planning stage for nearly a year and have some plans drawn up by a resident architect. Our first goal is to raise $30,000 for the foundation. If you feel led to give to this, you may give to Kingdom Partners Global with a note for it to go towards Amani Haven and 100% of your donation will go towards this. We will have more details in future letters along with some pictures of the area where Amani Haven will be built. Some of the girls will be orphans, some will be rescued from human trafficking, some will be there because their families cannot afford to keep them. All of the girls (Phase 1 should be able to house 8 girls) will be given a safe place to live, food to eat and an education at the local school. Our desire is to have the foundation laid before we take a team there to help build the walls and put on a roof…estimated time for that, Lord willing, is summer of 2021.
Family News
Tammy was blessed by Zach and Jess with a ticket to visit our kids in England, John & Marie and Koral & Divan. She made the trip alone and was gone for two weeks…Kellie and David sent her off with some spending money on a credit card! It was quite hectic at home without her, but we managed to survive.
Toby Jones has returned to England after staying with us for several months. He accompanied me on my trip to South Africa and was involved in any youth activities I had including working with two youth groups on a weekly basis.
Grace is in 7th grade at Concordia Lutheran School and Sarah is in 5th grade there, both are learning well. Zeke is in third grade and Tammy is home schooling him. He is involved in soccer and his team just won a Thanksgiving tournament. All three of them LOVE Camden (2) and Adley (4 months) who belong to Jess and Zach and Kaylee (1) who belongs to Kellie and David. (Bold are our bio and adopted kids, non-bold are their amazing spouses!)
We are looking forward to celebrating Christmas with Koral and Divan as they will be here briefly in the States for Divan’s brother’s wedding. Unfortunately, John and Marie will not be home for the holidays. It’s part of the sacrifice we make when we choose to follow the Lord, we go where He sends us, when He sends us. Sometimes that is easier than at other times.
We hope you have an amazing Christmas celebrating the Lord’s birth and enjoying your family! Thanks so much for your faithful prayers and support. Without them we could not do the work that God has called us to.
We are looking for more people to partner with us, both in praying for us and giving financially. Please pray and ask God if He would have you join us.
Click the link below to give online. If paying by check, please send your check to the address listed below; do not put our name on the check, but make checks payable to Kingdom Partners Global. All checks will go towards our personal support unless stated otherwise. You will receive a receipt for tax purposes. Thank you so much for being a part of the ministry with us.
