New Zealand Mission Trip

New Zealand Mission.jpg

WHAT: We are planning a mission trip to Auckland, New Zealand July 6th-19th, 2020 with Acts Church and The Tabernacle.  We’ll be working with an organization called InZone (inzoneproject.org). We will be assisting with building renovations, ministering to the students who are a part of the InZone program, and sharing our faith with adults and students in the community.

WHO: This mission trip will be a combined Acts & Tabernacle mission trip. Anyone 16 years old and up is welcome to apply. We are looking for students and adults with a passion to serve and share their faith. The Pastors of Acts Church and The Tabernacle reserve the right to deny participation to anyone who they deem not ready for an oversees mission trip.

WHEN: Monday, July 6th - Sunday, July 19th, 2020.

COST: The estimated cost is $2,700/person (including a $300 deposit due by February 16th). This includes airfare, all the food, housing and transportation while in New Zealand. The only extra money you might need would be for a passport if you don’t already have one and souvenirs while in New Zealand. The final cost will be determined as we get closer to the trip. The above estimated cost is exactly that - an estimation. The cost could go up or down based on how many participants we have and how soon we can book the airfare.

RAISING FUNDS: There are several ways to raise money for a mission trip.

  • The best way is to pick up extra hours at work (or get a job if you don't have one) and start saving that extra money for the trip.

  • The second best way to raise funds is to send out support letters to friends and family asking for support both financially and prayerfully. We would encourage you to send a letter to all family and friends. You might be surprised to see who would support you. Please do NOT send a letter to everyone in your church. People in the church can very easily be swarmed with multiple individuals asking for money for this trip. It is okay to ask family members and close friends who are also members of your church, but do not send a letter to church members you are not close friends with.

  • The third best way to raise support is through group fundraisers at church. Talk to your pastor to see what your church is planning for fundraisers.

  • Last but not least, get creative! Brainstorm ways you (and even a few others) can raise more support — shovel some driveways, sell candy bars, ask your place of employment for a donation, get a few others together to do a car wash, ask local businesses if they offer fundraising opportunities. You don’t need to wait on your pastor to plan a fundraiser for you.

 About InZone

Terrance.jpg

Chicago-born Terrance Wallace traveled to New Zealand several years ago on a holiday. At first blown away by the breathtaking scenery, he was alarmed to see a news item about Māori and Pasifika youth falling through the cracks. It struck a chord for Terrance. After narrowly escaping being gunned down in a carjacking, Terrance was given a second chance at life. He became determined to make a difference, and here in front of him was a new challenge. He packed up his house in Chicago and moved to New Zealand. Setting his sights on Auckland’s sought-after “grammar school zone”, he found a home in the heart of the city’s wealthiest exclusive schooling area. He invited Māori and Pasifika boys with a desire to succeed to apply for a chance to move into the in-zone home and attend Auckland Grammar School. Now they would have access to highly resourced schooling. This is how you break cycles. The boys overcame obstacles, dealt with setbacks, and ultimately made breakthrough successes. The InZone story has become the pride of New Zealand and Terrance is now working to setup an InZone Program in Chicago. Learn more about InZone at inzoneproject.org.

The InZone Education Foundation is a New Zealand registered charitable trust that actively supports the education of young Māori and Pacific Island secondary students, in collaboration with two of New Zealand's top state schools; Auckland Grammar School and Epsom Girls Grammar School.
